Increase in Statutory Holiday Entitlement

The Department of Trade and Industry has recently confirmed the increase to the statutory minimum holiday entitlement. The current annual leave entitlement is 20 days per annum (including bank holidays) and this is due to increase to 28 days per annum (including bank holidays). This increase will move UK workers' annual leave entitlement closer to that of workers in other European countries.

The change will be introduced in two stages, increasing from 20 to 24 days with effect from 1st October 2007 and then from 24 to 28 days on 1st October 2008. It is estimated that 6 million workers will benefit from this change.
