Security Industry Authority (SIA) Licensing

On the 20th March 2006, any person wishing to work in England and Wales within the security industry will have to be licensed by the SIA. There are two types of licence; front line managers for operatives and non-front line licenses for managers. In order to acquire a licence, an applicant would need to pass an identity check, a check on their professional competence and a criminal
record check.

The licence fee costs c. £190 and is valid for 3 years where upon it will need to be renewed. Since the scheme was set-up, over 50,000 licences have been issued to the Private Security Industry, with many more applications expected to be submitted before the March deadline.
