A UK hospital is considering banning theatre nurses from wearing the popular Crocs shoes, citing health and safety reasons and infection risks. Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust denied it was concerned about reports that static electricity build-up caused by the colourful footwear could affect medical equipment, following reported incidents in Sweden. Richard Parker, deputy chief nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, said staff were expected to uphold a dress code, which included specific guidance on appropriate footwear. The policy states that shoes must be black, clean, low heeled, soft-soled and supportive. Parker said: "We are aware that some of our staff would prefer to wear Crocs-type footwear, and we are working closely with union representatives and our governors' council to discuss this further."
